The 1960’s and the 1990's represent change to me. Cultures were transforming what was
considered conventional and breaking out of the norm. French New Wave is one 1960's example (I loooooove Jean-Luc Godard).
Music had a
new kind of soul! Not always all across the board. Some artists had soul in their
lyrics, others in the vocals or instruments. They had something to express
though and it delivered a delicious sound, my friends!
Songs were jam packed with emotions. I don’t consider
Kurt Cobain’s voice to be very pleasing. I’ve seen documentaries, where people
talk about how Kurt Cobain has great singing ability. They isolate his vocal
tracks to make their point, but I never hear it (I’ve always considered the
possibility of being tone deaf though ;) ). What I do hear is soul! I get the
impression that he wanted to express feelings and thoughts and music was an
emotional way of doing so. I could be crazy, but I think this video can back me
up with the idea that Kurt Cobain had soul:
I just lap up that soulful music!! Do you feel connected to
90’s grunge the way I do? Is there another genre of music that you cherish?
