The 2017 Kahtoola Uphill - Flagstaff Event Photography
This February marked the 10th annual Kahtoola Uphill, presented by none other than... Kahtoola! The event is sponsored by Gore-Tex and benefits the Friends of Camp Colton. Participants race up the second highest peak in Arizona, through the snow (here's where those Kahtoola Microspikes came in handy) all in the name of camp. Why for camp?!
Every year, all of the 6th graders in the Flagstaff Unified School District have the opportunity to pack their bags and stay at Camp Colton, an outdoor and environmental education camp, for a week. They get to explore their surroundings through guided lessons all about botany, astronomy, aquatics, geology, and so much more. Watching campers discover a new plant or a horny toad (definitely a crowd favorite!) fills me with one of the sweetest feelings. Students also get the chance to grow their social skills, independence, and responsibility while they stay at camp. And the Friends of Camp Colton, a non profit organization, strives to create sustainable funding for Camp Colton to ensure that many more 6th graders to come will grow at camp. Which is exactly what all the participants in this snowy race helped do!
Yay for camp!!
